Ebay and stones

How to buy stones on Ebay

Product Description:
  • Check the description of the stone very carefully
  • You are looking for the clarity grade, color description, size and cut. Read the fine print about the stone
  • Is the stone synthetic or natural
  • Is it treated or not? If it is then what is the treatment
  • What are the symmetry, polish and other finer features of the stone described as
  • If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is ... not true
Seller:
  • For how long has the seller held an account on ebay
  • What is the dealers feedback percentage
  • What are the negative comments on the feedback? Is there a pattern of problems? Has he addressed any of the issues?
  • What are the positive feedback points?
  • If you ask a question does he reply satisfactorily? In a timely manner?
Return:
  • What is the return policy?
  • What is the exchange?
  • Does the seller have a store location?
  • Do you lose any amount for the restocking/ shipment for the stone?
  • Is there a negative comment in the feedback regarding the return policy?
  • Make sure the return policy grants you enough time to be able to get the stone examined by a gem lab or local appraiser at least
Just to be careful:
  • Study very carefully the other products sold by the seller and the previous items as well
  • If you feel there is a fraud then it is better to get to the bottom of it before getting into it
  • Make sure the seller has enough good credits (preferably 100%) to become your source of stone hunt
